“I Witnessed War Crimes” in Gaza: American Mercenary Worked at GHF Aid Site
Washington (Quds News Network)- An American mercenary who worked at an aid distribution site run by the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) in Gaza admitted that Israeli forces and US contractors shot at starving aid seekers who pose no threat, adding he “witnessed war crimes” in the Palestinian enclave. In an interview with the BBC, retired US special forces officer Anthony Aguilar said, “I witnessed the Israeli Defense Forces shooting at the crowds of Palestinians. I witnessed the Israeli Defense Forces firing a main gun tank round from the Markava tank into a crowd of people, destroying a car of civilians that were simply driving away from the site. I witnessed mortar rounds being fired at the crowds of people to keep them controlled.” Referring to the GHF aid sites, he said, “In my most frank assessment, I would say that they're criminal. In my entire career I have never witnessed the brutality and use of indiscriminate and unnecessary force against a civilian population, an unarmed, starving population. I've never witnessed that in all of the places l've been deployed to war until I was in Gaza at the hands of the IDF and US contractors.” Aguilar described the US- and Israel-backed aid mechanism as “amateur,” saying GHF conduct was “inexperienced, untrained,” and had “no idea how to conduct operations of this magnitude.” Aguilar admitted, “Without question, I witnessed war crimes. I witnessed war crimes being held by the Israeli Defense Forces without a doubt using artillery rounds, mortar rounds, firing tank rounds into unarmed civilians is a war crime.” In another interview with UNXeptable, Aguilar said the GHF aid system was designed to “dehumanize the civilian population and to give the appearance to the outside that they are animals. They are cattle. They are just herded from point to point and they don't have value.” The American mercenary also said the Israeli forces and US contracted are “treating civilians in Gaza worse and with less dignity than ISIS fighters at Baghuz Fawqani in Syria in 2018.” He recounted a story of a young boy that took place on May 28 at the aid site number 2: The aid has been distributed. A lot of people left. A little boy called Ameer was with the crowd, but we walked over. He was not wearing shoes and his clothes were falling off of him because he was so skinny. When he saw Aguilar, he kissed his hand and told him “thank you”. “That’s not a Hamas fighter. He [Ameer] walked 12km to get there… he collected his items and walked back to the group.. Then he was shot at with pepper spray, tear gas, stun grenades, and bullets.. he ran away scared.. the IDF was shooting at the crowd.. Ameer was one of them.. he died.” “That’s not the only occasion. That happens everyday,” he added, saying "innocent civilians are being shot at, not because of the evilness of the IDF soldiers, but because of the lack of the responsibility of the leadership and people in charge that put these sites where they are at.. that put the IDF and UG Solutions contractors in this horrible ethical dilemma.” The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation process “needs to end,” he said.
