Israeli Military Admits it has No Proof Hamas Stole UN Aid, Undercutting Government’s Justification for Gaza Blockade
Gaza (Quds News Network)- Senior Israeli military officials admitted that they have no evidence that Hamas systematically stole aid from the United Nations in Gaza, reported The News York Times. This undermines one of the main claims the Israeli government gave for restricting food to the besieged territory for over 145 days, starving over 125 people, most of them babies, to death. Israel also used the same claim to justify blocking the UN from distributing aid. Instead, Israel and the US created a company called the “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF)” to replace the UN. However, the company has become a death trap, where over 1,000 starving civilians have been killed while attempting to receive aid. For nearly two years, Israel claimed that Hamas was intercepting humanitarian supplies. Israel used that claim to justify its total blockade. But military officials now admit that the UN-led aid system was largely effective and more secure than other aid channels. The revelation comes as famine spreads across Gaza. More than 100 humanitarian groups warned of mass starvation this week. They urged Israel to lift its siege. The European Union and 28 countries, including UK, France, and Canada, condemned Israel’s “drip-feeding” of aid. Despite the criticism, Israeli officials continue to blame Hamas and the UN for the Israeli-made famine. Government spokesman David Mencer claimed, “There is no famine caused by Israel.” But medical teams in Gaza report a sharp rise in starvation-related deaths, especially among children. A former UN official in Gaza, Georgios Petropoulos, welcomed the military’s recent statements. “If the UN had been trusted months ago, Gazans wouldn’t be starving or getting shot while trying to eat,” he said.
