Toronto (Quds News Network)- Israeli soldiers who hold Canadian citizenship are afraid of returning to Canada after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) launched what it called a “structural investigation” into possible war crimes during the Gaza genocide. Nati Hubberman, a dual citizen from the Canadian city of Toronto who carried out reserve duty on the northern borders, told The Times of Israel he was scared. “A lot of us asked ourselves: Is it safe for me to fly to Canada? Will I be arrested at the border?” he said. “People were texting me saying, ‘Watch out, your name is on it,’” he said. “It” was FindIDFSoldiers.net, a site created in February by Davide Mastracci, a Canadian journalist who has harshly criticized Israel, accusing it of orchestrating a “planned genocide in Gaza.” The probe, part of Canada’s Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Program (CAHWCP), focuses on Canadian citizens who served in the Israeli military (IDF), particularly during the Gaza assault that started in 2023, according to reports. The investigation, which began in 2024, is being carried out in coordination with Canada’s Department of Justice, immigration authorities, and border services. Authorities have not issued public statements or updates, though officials confirm that the process may include gathering evidence, international cooperation, and potential indictments on Canadian soil. “The program’s aim is to ensure Canada does not become a safe haven for war criminals,” the Department of Justice said in a statement. “This includes both prosecuting those within Canada and sharing relevant evidence with other jurisdictions.” The Brussels-based Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) has also sought to initiate nearly 100 cases against Israeli soldiers over war crimes in Gaza in 14 countries with universal jurisdiction: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Cyprus, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Serbia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden and Thailand. In January, the Israeli military advised dozens of soldiers against travelling abroad after reportedly tracking around 30 war crimes complaints and legal actions targeting its personnel for Gaza war crimes.
