More Than 82 Percent of Gaza under Israeli Forced Displacement Threats: UN
Gaza (Quds News Network)- More than 82 percent of the total area of the Gaza Strip is currently under Israeli forced displacement threats, and people have nowhere to flee, the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said on Tuesday.
In recent weeks, displacement orders
reached their highest point. Israel began a full purge of civilians from northern Gaza and Rafah in the south. The Israeli military also launched a new operation called “Gideon’s Chariots.”
The assault forced hundreds of thousands to flee cities and neighborhoods including Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahiya, Sheikh Zayed, Tal al-Zaatar, Jabalia, and Al-Shujaiya and Tuffah areas in eastern Gaza. The orders then expanded to cover large areas in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, and eastern Khan Younis.
The UN agency also said the Israeli army attacked another one of its schools-turned-shelters for displaced Palestinians in Gaza early on Monday.
Israeli warplanes have destroyed many dozens of such schools since the start of the war, massacring large numbers of Palestinians sheltering inside.
According to Gaza’s Government Media Office on Monday, the Israeli military has targeted and bombed 256 shelters housing more than 700,000 dispalced people since the start of the genocide.
In June alone, Israeli forces targeted over 11 shelters.
Most of these shelters are schools housing displaced families, including government schools and UNRWA schools that were originally intended to provide learning environments for tens of thousands of students, but have instead been turned into bombing targets by the Israeli occupation, in flagrant violation of all humanitarian and international legal standards, the Office added.
Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense, stated that Israel focuses on civilians and shelters in the Gaza Strip in its airstrikes. He continued, “The policy of killing persists to this moment, and the targeting of shelters, civilians, hospitals, displaced persons, and homes continues systematically by the Israeli occupation, which is destroying all means of life.”
Since launching its assault on Gaza, the Israeli military has issued dozens of forced displacement orders to Palestinians in the war-torn enclave amid intense bombardment and months-long blockade on aid.
Reuters reported on Wednesday, citing an unnamed source, that the US administration is also demanding the ICC shelve investigations of Israeli leaders over the Gaza genocide and end an investigation into war crimes conducted by US troops in Afghanistan.
