Pentagon Removes Senior Officer After Israeli-Linked Outlet Incites Against Him Over Israel Criticism
Washington (Quds News Network)- The Pentagon has removed a senior officer from his post and launched an internal investigation after an Israeli-linked outlet incited against him over social media posts criticizing Israel and US policy in the Middle East. Col. Nathan McCormack had been serving as the Levant and Egypt branch chief under the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s J5 strategic planning directorate. He is now off the Joint Staff. The move came shortly after the Jewish News Syndicate (JNS), a news agency affiliated to the occupation state of Israel, reported on Tuesday about a semi-anonymous X (formerly Twitter) account allegedly linked to McCormack. The posts described Israel as “our worst ‘ally’” and stated that its leaders commit ethnic cleansing. A Pentagon official confirmed McCormack’s removal. “He will no longer be on the Joint Staff while the matter is being investigated,” the official told JNS. An investigating officer has been assigned to review the posts and assess their implications. The posts, archived after being taken down, also criticized  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. McCormack reportedly referred to him and his political circle as “Judeo-supremacist cronies” who want to “cleanse ‘Eretz Israel’ of ethnic Palestinians.” Middle East Eye reported that the posts accused the US of enabling Israel’s “bad behavior” and avoiding criticism “out of Holocaust guilt.” In one post, McCormack reportedly wrote, “Israel’s actions over decades have prompted accusations of ethnic cleansing and genocide.” The Pentagon has distanced itself from McCormack’s views. “These posts do not reflect the position of the Joint Staff or the Department of Defense,” a spokesperson said. “Our global alliances and partnerships are vital to our national security.” A Defense Department contractor expressed shock at the officer’s views. “This is the kind of bitter oversharing I’d expect from someone who doesn’t know better. But at his level and under his own name and likeness? It’s mind-boggling.” McCormack began his current position in June 2024, according to his LinkedIn profile. The investigation continues as the Pentagon weighs the impact of the incident on its diplomatic and military ties, especially with Israel.
