Two Red Cross Workers Killed in Israeli Attack in Gaza: ICRC
Gaza (Quds News Network)- Two Red Cross workers were killed in an Israeli strike on their home in Khan Younis in southern Gaza, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said Sunday. "We are heartbroken by the death of two dear colleagues, Ibrahim Eid and Ahmad Abu Hilal," the International Committee of the Red Cross said in a post. The strike was carried out Saturday, the ICRC added, renewing an "urgent" appeal for a ceasefire in the Palestinian territory. Since the start of the assault in October 2023, 7, Israeli forces have been blocking the entry of essential medical supplies and medicines to the Strip, bombing hospitals and other medical facilities, killing and kidnapping healthcare staff, and targeting ambulances. According to the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), at least 1,400 healthcare professionals and 111 civil defence workers have been killed in Israeli attacks. Physicians for Human Rights, Israel (PHRI) said more than 250 Palestinian healthcare workers – doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other essential medical staff – were detained by Israel throughout the war, more than 150 remain in custody. The most recent attack took place on March 23 when eight PRCS Palestinian medics were killed along with five Civil Defence first responders and a UN staff member by Israeli forces in southern Gaza. Five ambulances, a fire truck and a UN vehicle were struck "one by one" in the al-Hashashin area, according to a UN official. The 15 bodies were recovered from a "mass grave". The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) said the eight bodies of PRCS medics were retrieved "after seven days of silence and having access denied to the area of Rafah where they were last seen". They were killed “one after another”, then buried in the sand along with their emergency vehicles, the UN said.
