Berlin (Quds News Network)- Germany asked Israel to sign a “genocide clause” as a precondition for further arms deliveries, according to a report by the German newspaper Bild. The report added that there have been no arms shipments from Germany to Israel since March. This clause apparently contained a written assurance from the Israeli occupation government that German arms will not be used to commit genocide in the Gaza war. The document is said to have arrived in Berlin on 10 October and allowed Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz to declare in parliament the next day that "We have supplied arms, and we will supply arms". According to the report, Economy Minister Robert Habeck and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock – the top ministers of the Greens were behind the ban on arms shipment to Israel. Israel has faced accusations that it is subjecting Palestinians in Gaza to genocidal acts, with South Africa bringing its case against Israel before the United Nations court in The Hague in December, accusing it of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The death toll from Israel’s war there, which began in October, has surpassed 42,000, according to health officials in the besieged and bombarded territory. South Africa’s case argues that Israel violated the 1948 Genocide Convention, which was established in the aftermath of the Holocaust and requires all countries to prevent the recurrence of such crimes. Such cases can take years to conclude.
