Israeli sniper kills UNRWA worker in northern West Bank amid expanded military attacks
Occupied West Bank (Quds News Network)- An Israeli sniper shot and killed a United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) employee in the northern West Bank, marking the first such incident in 10 years. The killing occurred amid Israel's ongoing military campaign in the occupied West Bank.
In a statement, UNRWA confirmed the death of Sufian Abdul Jawad, an agency worker who was shot by an Israeli sniper while on the roof of his home in the Al-Far’a refugee camp. The agency mourned his loss, stating, "We grieve the loss of our colleague, killed by Israeli sniper fire in the northern West Bank."
The incident took place as Israeli forces continue their "wide-ranging campaign" in the northern West Bank and the Jordan Valley, according to a spokesperson for the Israeli army. This campaign, part of Israel’s broader military offensive across Palestine, has led to widespread violence and casualties.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Club reported that over 10,700 people have been arrested in the West Bank since the start of the offensive on Gaza, excluding the thousands more detained in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, thousands of Palestinians attended the funerals of 10 victims killed during the Israeli military operations in the northern cities of Tubas and Tulkarm. Five people from Tulkarm were laid to rest following a three-day military assault. The funeral procession began at Thabet Thabet Governmental Hospital, with the victims buried in Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps, as well as the nearby village of Shweika.
In Tubas, another five Palestinians were buried after being killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted them during a two-day military operation.
Elsewhere, Israeli settlers uprooted hundreds of olive trees and fruit-bearing plants, destroying a farming structure on the outskirts of the village of Jaba', south of Jenin.
On Thursday evening, Israeli forces withdrew from Tulkarm and Tubas after completing days-long military operations, leaving behind widespread devastation. The expansion of Israel’s military attacks in the West Bank has paralleled its war on Gaza, resulting in mounting casualties and destruction across the occupied territories.
According to official sources, the Israeli military offensive in the West Bank has so far resulted in the deaths of 703 Palestinians, including 159 children, with over 5,700 wounded. In addition, more than 10,400 people have been arrested as the aggression intensifies. The situation continues to escalate as Israeli settlers also increase their attacks on Palestinians and their properties, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
