4,650 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails, NGOs say
Occupied Palestine (QNN)- By the end of May 2021, 4,650 Palestinian prisoners are held in the Israeli jails, according to Palestinian prisoners advocacy groups.
The Palestinian prisoners rights organization Addameer said in a statement that 39 women and 180 minors are among the prisoners, who are enduring harsh conditions in Israeli jails.
There are 520 administrative detainees held without charge or trial, as the organization said.
Administrative detention is illegal under international law, however, the occupation state uses it to repress the Palestinian people.
'Israel' routinely uses administrative detention and has, over the years, placed thousands of Palestinians behind bars for periods ranging from several months to several years, without charging them, without telling them what they are accused of, and without disclosing the alleged evidence to them or to their lawyers.
There are also 50 Palestinian prisoners from the 1948 territories, 330 Jerusalemite prisoners, and 240 Gaza prisoners.
Among the prisoners are 12 Palestinian Legislative Council members.
According to the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, by the end of May, one million Palestinians have been arrested since 1967, including 17,000 women and 50,000 children.
The NGO also said more than 54,000 administrative detention orders have been recorded since 1967, and a total of 226 detainees have died inside Israeli prisons since 1967.
US Vice President JD Vance claimed that more humanitarian aid is now entering the Gaza Strip than at any time in the past five years. Palestinians, however, rejected this claim, confirming that Israel continues to impose restrictions on the entry of aid despite the ceasefire.
France has rejected a visa to prominent human rights advocate and Director-General of Al-Haq, Shahwan Jabarin, who was scheduled to address the European Parliament’s human rights committee in Strasbourg, a move that “undermining efforts towards accountability and advocacy for Palestinian rights.”
The US Senate blocked on Wednesday two resolutions that would have stopped the sale of some $450 million in bombs and bulldozers to Israel, amid the assaults on Gaza, Lebanon and Iran.
