Ramallah (QNN)- The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission said in a report that Palestinian women detainees in Israel's Damon prison have been facing unbearable humanitarian and health conditions, including a deliberate medical negligence. There are 36 female prisoners lodged in Al-Damon Prison. One-third of them are mothers. There are 24 female prisoners suffering from long sentences with a maximum of 16 years, 3 under administrative detention, and 9 detained awaiting trial. Israa Jaabis, sentenced to 11 years, is among those female prisoners. Israa's health condition has been deteriorating as she needs several surgeries. She has burns over 60 percent of her body and eight of her fingers were amputated, in addition to long-lasting scarring and pain in her face and throughout her body. Amal Taqatqa, sentenced to 7 years, was shot with six bullets in the chest, waist, hand, and left foot. One of the bullets stayed in her chest threatening her life. She needs an operation to remove the platinum in her injured leg. Rawan abu Ziada, sentenced to 9 years, also suffers from pain in the neck and stomach. This prison is located within the “green line”, this means that Palestinian women – like most Palestinian political prisoners – are detained outside the 1967 occupied territories of the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem, directly contravening Article 76 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which states that an occupying power must detain the residents of an occupied territory within that occupied territory itself. Since the beginning of the occupation, over 10,000 Palestinian women have been arrested and detained by Israeli occupation forces.
