Pro-Palestine campaign in Chicago defeats racist Zionist candidate in local elections

Chicago (QNN)- A pro-Palestine campaign in Chicago succeeded to defeat Sharon Brannigan, a racist pro-Israel candidate, in the race for Palos Township Assessor in a landslide to incumbent Robert Maloney.
The #ByeBrannigan campaign, led by pro-Palestine activists and Arab community organizers of the southwest suburbs of Chicago, mobilized hundreds of Palestinians and other Arabs to the polls to defeat the racist Sharon Brannigan.
For almost four years, southwest suburban Arabs and other residents attended every monthly Palos Township board meeting, demanding Brannigan’s resignation, her censure by the rest of the board, and more transparency and accountability from the township in general, in response to racist, anti-Arab, and anti-Muslim statements she has posted online.
Brannigan and the board tried to silence the protests. They have even hired a security company to bully protesters and call the Palos Hills police, leading to the arrests of five #ResignBrannigan leaders.
Protesters were vindicated, however, when the judge deemed Brannigan’s testimony “contradictory,” dismissed the case, and “essentially affirmed the right of protestors to chant and challenge Brannigan and other trustees at the township meetings,” according to an October 2020 statement from the Arab American Action Network.
“Yes, Brannigan is a Trump Republican, and received political support from Cook County Commissioner Sean Morrison, who is also the chair of the county’s Republican Party,” Fight Back News cited Husam Marajda, #ByeBrannigan Campaign Coordinator, “and yes, the southwest suburbs of Chicago is predominantly white and right wing, and historically votes Republican.”
“But she was also supported by other members of the township board who are independents or Democratic Party operatives,” Marajda added, “so in its essence, #ByeBrannigan was not supporting Maloney or practicing partisanship. It was formed and organized exclusively to defeat Brannigan and her racism and white supremacy.”
Brannigan is well-known for her racist and Islamophobic comments. In one statement, she accused local Muslims of not integrating, “keeping themselves and their activities hidden from the general population.”
“We are allowing these people whether they have peaceful intentions or not into our country without question,” Brannigan said in a post about the 3rd Congressional District, where she ran as the Republican candidate in 2014.
In another post, Brannigan questioned, “What’s Palos doing? Why are all our schools filling with Middle East students without proper documentation?”
Brannigan also praised former First Lady Melania Trump for not wearing a headscarf on a trip to Saudi Arabia. “WE AMERICAN WOMEN ARE BEING REPRESENTED WITH DIGNITY!” she wrote.
