Prisoners’ advocacy group blames ‘Israel’ for detaining Palestinian youth with COVID-19
The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society has blamed Israeli occupation authorities for the detention of a Palestinian young man with COVID-19 in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus.
Last night, Israeli occupation forces detained Assem Jamil Shtayyeh, 27 years old, who tested positive for COVID-19 on February 22,
Assem was detained during a raid on his family’s home in Nablus, north of the occupied West Bank.
According to his family, Assem was still suffering moderate COVID-19 symptoms, and that he was still in isolation when he was arrested in the middle of the night, said the PPS.
PPS urged the World Health Organization, the Red Cross and all the competent international bodies to immediately intervene to release Shtayyeh, and to pressure the Israeli occupation authorities to halt the systematic policy of daily arrests.
By the end of January, 4500 Palestinians have been imprisoned in Israeli jails, among them 37 women, 140 children and 45 held in administrative detention.
It also said that there are 11 Palestinian priosners suffering from cancer, and 300 priosners have chronic diseases.
