PPS warns of Israeli crackdown on Palestinian prisoners in Nafha prison

Occupied Palestine (QNN)- The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) on Monday warned of Israeli Prison Service (IPS) crackdown on Palestinian prisoners in Nafha desert prison.

The PPS said in a statement on Monday that over 80 Palestinian prisoners in Israel’s Nafha prison, particularly Section 12, are exposed to an expansive crackdown by the IPS.

This came after a Palestinian prisoner stabbed an Israeli jailer in the Nafha prison, lightly wounding him. The attack comes only one day after prisoners warned of retaliation to an Israeli crackdown on female prisoners.

The IPS assaulted and severely beat female prisoners and isolated three of them.

They also cut the power off, removed Hijabs of hijabi prisoners, and used tear gas against the prisoners. It also denied them visitations and prevented them from using the prison canteen. The prisoners returned their meals and knocked on the cells’ doors in protest against the Israeli repression.

The prisoners were taken out last night in the open, despite the freezing conditions and the heavy rain, in an act of revenge by the Israeli prison guards, according to prisoner advocacy groups.

The Palestinian Prisoners Information Office said today that the communication with the Palestinian prisoners at Section 12 has been interrupted. Thus, the fate of the prisoners is still unknown.

It also noted that the fate of the Palestinian prisoner who carried out the stabbing attack is unknown since yesterday and warned, therefore, of a real risk on his life.

The Palestinian prisoner advocacy groups held the Israeli occupation authorities the responsibility for any deterioration in the situation, especially that Israeli repression units were reportedly preparing to storm Nafha prison last night following the attack.
