Washington DC (QNN)- A shooting near the White House has left at least three people injured, including two National Guard soldiers. The attack took place just before 2:30 p.m. at 17th Street and I Street NW, next to Farragut Square Park.
American media reported chaos as gunfire erupted only two blocks north of the White House. Law enforcement rushed to the scene within minutes. The Metropolitan Police Department said officers secured the area and arrested a shooting suspect before 3 p.m.
One victim was airlifted to a hospital by med-evac helicopter. Ambulances transported the other two. The Associated Press reported that two of the injured were National Guardsmen. A law enforcement source told News4 that one guard member was shot during an exchange of gunfire.
Police shut down the area as the investigation began. Several law enforcement vehicles filled the streets around Farragut Square Park.
Authorities continue to investigate the motive and circumstances behind the shooting.
