Washington (Quds News Network)- The Atlantic has published details of a private Signal chat where senior Trump officials discussed airstrikes on Yemen. The report contradicts official claims that the conversation did not involve war plans. Jeffrey Goldberg, The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, was mistakenly added to the group. He revealed that he received attack details two hours before U.S. fighter jets launched their strikes. The chat also included information about takeoff times and intelligence on targets in Yemen. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth denied sharing sensitive war plans. “Nobody was texting war plans,” he told reporters. Other officials, including CIA Director John Ratcliffe and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz, insisted that no classified information was disclosed. The White House has denied that as well. Despite these denials, The Atlantic decided to publish the chat messages. The magazine argued that the public has a right to know about officials using insecure communication for military decisions.

What Was in the Chat?

Goldberg’s report includes a timeline of the attack, showing that Hegseth provided real-time updates. His messages detailed:
  • The exact launch times of F-18 fighter jets.
  • The expected moment of the first missile strike.
  • The launch of Tomahawk missiles from the sea.
  • The identity of targets, including a high-ranking Houthi leader.
Waltz also confirmed that intelligence verified targets inside a collapsed building in Sanaa. The Yemeni health ministry reported at least 53 deaths in the strikes. The White House objected to The Atlantic publishing the full messages but did not specify which details it considered sensitive. The administration has yet to explain how the messages did not contain classified information, despite their operational details.
