Political prisoner from Jenin marks 19th year in Israeli jails

Jenin (QNN) – Palestinian political prisoner in Israeli jails Mohammad Sharqiyeh Freihat, who comes from the town of Yamoun near the northern West Bank city of Jenin, entered on Saturday his 19th year in Israeli jails. He is the second longest-serving Palestinian political prisoner from the Jenin area, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society.

Freihat was arrested by Israeli occupation forces in Ramallah during an invasion of the city in 2000, and was sentenced to 23 in prison for resisting the Israeli occupation, said Muntaser Sammour, director of the Jenin office of the Prisoner Society.

He said Freihat was denied family visits for a long time and was often put in solitary confinement for long periods as a punishment. He also has serious health issues.
