PLO detains Palestinian director over anti-authority criticism

Ramallah (QNN)- The PLO’s Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday extended the detention of the Palestinian director and actor Abdurrahman Thaher for another week over the charge of “anti-authority slander”.
Thaher (38 years old) was arrested last Monday by the Palestinian Preventive Security near Al Najah University in Nablus, where he works at the media center. He was charged with anti-authority slander without any further information about the charge.
Thaher was arrested a few days after he criticized the Palestinian Authority in a Facebook post, saying that those, who already normalized relations with the occupation state, including the Palestinian Authority as well as other Arab countries, and those who keep “maintaining the right to respond” (referring to the Syrian regime) should be the last to criticize the UAE’s normalization efforts.

The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedom (MADA) condemned the arrest of Abdurrahman Thaher and called on the PLO to immediately release him and halt its assaults against the freedom of information.
