PIJ announces general alert over Israel’s punitive measures against prisoners

Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), announced a general mobilization of its forces on Thursday, as over 150 PIJ prisoners entered a second day of a hunger strike in protest against the punitive and repressive measures taken by the Israeli prisons’ administration.
On Wednesday evening, PIJ Secretary-General Ziyad al-Nakhalah affirmed that the movement “would not leave its sons in Zionist prisons as victims at the hands of the enemy.”
Al-Nakhalah warned, “We will stand with them and support them with everything we have even if this requires us to go to war for them, and no agreements or any other considerations will prevent us from doing so.”
Over 150 Palestinian Islamic Jihad prisoners in Israeli jails have started an open-ended hunger strike on Wednesday in protest against the punitive and repressive measures taken by the Israeli prisons’ administration.
On Thursday, the al-Quds Brigades stated that they had received al-Nakhalah’s statement and announced a general mobilization among its forces, saying “we are fully prepared, and we are at the ready.”
The movement warned that its patience would not last and that it would remain in a state of general alert to defend the prisoners and support their escalatory steps, no matter the cost.
The movement stressed that the decision to launch the hunger strike came after a month and a half of negotiations with the Israel Prison Service and Shin Bet (Israel Security Service) in order to return the detention conditions to what they were before September 6, among other demands.
The measures include isolation, distribution of prisoners to separate rooms, repression, abuse, and arbitrary transfers.
Such tensions came after the heroic act of six Palestinian prisoners who managed to free themselves on September 6 2021, from Gilbou prison, a high-security Israeli prison, through a secret tunnel they had reportedly dug beneath the prison.
Four of the six breakers were rearrested by the Israeli occupation on September 11, after five days of large-scale sweep operations throughout occupied Palestine using high-tech systems and the two others were rearrested on September 19, after 13 days of sweep operations.
