Gaza (QNN)- Dozens of Gazans performed Friday prayer in front of the headquarter of the Red Cross in solidarity with hunger-striking political detainees in Israeli prisons.
During the prayer sermon, Sheikh Dawoud Shihab, who is a leader in the Islamic Jihad movement (IJ), said that “all options and means are open for the resistance to release the detainees.”
“The resistance is prepared to enter a confrontation with the occupation for the sake of the freedom of the detainees”, he added.
Shihab added that the IJ has held talks with all those concerned about maintaining calm.
“We informed the mediators that the hunger strike will put the lives of detainees in danger, and we will not allow this to happen.”
This comes one day after talks between the IJ and Hamas, in which both factions warned of compromising the lives of detainees in Israeli prisons.
the factions said in a joint statement that any Israeli measures against the detainees would “lead the region to a massive explosion.”
Last Wednesday, 250 political detainees in Israeli prisons started an open hunger strike in protest against Israeli punitive measures, taken following the Gilboa prison break in the start of September.
