Palestinian teenager killed by Israeli forces during military raid into Jenin

Jenin (QNN)- Israeli occupation forces late Monday night shot and killed a Palestinian teenager during a military raid into Jenin refugee camp, north of the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that 17-year-old Derar Riyad al-Kafrini was shot by Israeli occupation soldiers during a night-military raid into the Jenin refugee camp. Al-Kafrini was rushed to the Jenin Public Hospital in critical condition, as the Israeli bullet hit him in the shoulder, penetrated his chest and exploded inside. He was announced dead minutes later.

That night, as local sources reported, an Israeli special forces unit, accompanied by a military bulldozer, raided the Jenin refugee camp from several directions while a helicopter hovered over the area.

The Israeli special forces unit surrounded the house of Bassem Saadi, one of top leaders of Palestinian Islamic Jihad group in the West Bank, before arresting him and his son-in-law Ashraf al-Jada. Saadi had previously been arrested by Israeli occupation three times and served a total of 15 years in Israeli prisons.

Some reports said Saadi was also shot and wounded during the raid. Israel’s Shin Bet confirmed Saadi was the target of the raid.

The forces also opened heavy gunfire and tear gas towards local youths and civilian houses during the raid.

Saadi’s wife was reportedly rushed to a hospital to get medical treatment as she was also injured after being attacked by Israeli forces.

In response, the Gaza-based Islamic Jihad announced in a statement that it was declaring a state of “alertness” and is “ready to respond following the aggression against Sheikh Bassam al-Saadi and his family in Jenin.”

Footage circulated on social media showed a convoy of Israeli military vehicles was seen entering the Jenin city and a heavy gunfire was heard.

A general strike was declared in Jenin, including a trade strike.

The West Bank city of Jenin has been the centre of Israeli aggressions and military operations since the few past months, as 30 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the start of this year in Jenin alone, including Al Jazeera’s veteran journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
