Palestinian Prisoner Dies in Israeli Custody, Marking 48 Deaths Since October 7

Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- Mohammed Walid Hussein Ali, 45, died in Israeli custody a week after his arrest. He was from Nur Shams camp in Tulkarm in the West Bank. Palestinian authorities confirmed his death on Wednesday. Ali had spent nearly 20 years in Israeli prisons. He held leadership roles within the prisoner movement and served as Hamas prisoners’ representative in Negev prison. He worked to defend the rights and achievements of prisoners.

Ali’s death brings the number of prisoners killed in Israeli custody since October 7, 2023 to 48. This includes 29 from Gaza. Israeli forces are withholding the bodies of 46 prisoners killed during this period. In total, Israel holds 57 prisoner bodies, with little information shared about the causes of death, especially for hostages from Gaza.

Israeli forces have kidnapped more than 11,900 Palestinians since October 7, 2023. Most detentions occurred in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem. These detentions include 435 women, some of whom were seized while traveling from Gaza to the West Bank. Israeli forces also detained at least 790 children, many facing harsh treatment. The crackdown on journalists has also intensified, with 136 arrested since the genocide began. Fifty-eight journalists, including five women, remain imprisoned.

Israel has issued over 10,000 administrative detention orders since October last year. Many orders targeted children and women. These detentions, often without charge or trial, include new arrests and renewals of previous orders.

Human rights groups report widespread abuses against detainees. Israeli forces have used violence, issued threats, and taken family members of detainees as hostages. They have demolished homes, seized property, and carried out field executions targeting detainees’ relatives.

More than 10,300 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons. Among them are 3,428 administrative detainees, including 100 children and 27 women. The total number of female prisoners has reached 88, including four from Gaza. At least 280 children remain in detention. Palestinian organizations are calling for international action to stop these violations.
