Palestinian Journalist Alaa Asaad Hashim Dies After Months in Coma from Israeli Airstrike Injuries
Gaza (Quds News Network)- Journalist Alaa Asaad Hashim has died after months in a coma following injuries from a previous Israeli airstrike on Gaza. Her death adds to the growing toll of Palestinian journalists targeted since the genocide began. Until January, 205 Palestinian journalists have been killed since Israel launched its military assault 16 months ago. Despite international protections for journalists, the Israeli army has deliberately targeted media professionals and institutions. The Government Media Office in Gaza reported that Israeli forces have destroyed over 87 media institutions since the genocide started. The office’s director, Ismail Al-Thawabta, had stated that Israel is systematically assassinating journalists to silence coverage of its war crimes against children, women, and civilians in Gaza. "This is an attempt to erase the truth and intimidate journalists," Al-Thawabta said. Since October 7, 2023, Israel has carried out genocide in Gaza. Israel has killed and injured over 157,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. At least 11,000 people remain missing, buried under rubble. Gaza also faces severe famine, which has already caused the deaths of dozens of children and elderly people. The destruction has left the territory in one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. Despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement, Israel continues its attacks. The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants on November 21 against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity. However, Israel has ignored these charges.
