Palestinian factions react to UN Security Council Resolution 2722: week and insufficient

Jerusalem (QNN) – Palestinian responses have poured in following the issuance of UN Security Council Resolution 2722, which calls for the expansion and monitoring of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Palestinian movement Hamas expressed dissatisfaction, deeming the resolution insufficient in addressing the catastrophic situation created by the Zionist military’s acts of terror in Gaza.

Hamas criticized the absence of an international decision to halt the genocidal war waged by the Israeli occupation on the Palestinian people in Gaza.

In a press statement, Hamas accused the U.S. administration of “diluting the resolution over the past five days, allowing the fascist occupation to continue its mission of destruction, killing, and terrorism in Gaza.”

“They [U.S.] challenges the will of the international community and the UN General Assembly to stop this aggression against the defenseless Palestinian people,” read the Hamas press statement.

Hamas emphasized the duty of the UN Security Council to compel the Israeli occupiers to deliver sufficient aid to all areas of Gaza, especially the northern regions that have been facing daily massacres, a fascist blockade, and continuous starvation policies.

Meanwhile, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) condemned Arab involvement in the Security Council resolution, considering it a cover for the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.

PFLP asserted that the acceptance of concerned Arab countries in playing a role in a “theatrical performance” aimed solely at countering public pressure reflects collaboration and submission to the goals of the Israeli aggression and to American dictates.

In a press release, the Front stated that “the UN Security Council and the entire international system have once again confirmed their loss of any legitimacy, serving as tools to justify killing, extermination, and cover imperialistic wars and aggressive American policies.”

“The U.S. veto series against Russia’s amendments calling for an immediate ceasefire is a greenlight for the genocide to go ahead, now officially backed by Arab endorsement,” PFLP added.

Adding to the criticisms, Mustafa Barghouti, the Secretary-General of the Palestinian Initiative, acknowledged the importance of the Security Council resolution on humanitarian aid but labeled it weak and insufficient.
