Palestinian Detainee Musab Haniyah Killed in Israeli Custody

Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- The Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Commission and the Prisoners’ Club announced on Monday the death of Musab Haniyah, a 35-year-old detainee from Gaza, in an Israeli prison.
Haniyah was kidnapped on March 3, 2024, from Hamad City in Gaza. His family confirmed that he had no prior health issues before his detention. He was married and had a nine-year-old son. Israeli authorities informed Palestinian officials that he ‘died’ on January 5, 2025.
Rights groups stated that Israel withholds information about detainees who are killed in Israeli jails. They stated that Israel often delays or manipulates official responses regarding detainees’ deaths while keeping their bodies. “In many cases, Israeli responses come only from the military, with no other proof of death, as they continue to withhold the bodies,” the groups said in a joint statement.
Since the genocidal war on Gaza began, at least 59 Palestinian detainees were killed in Israeli custody. Among them, 38 were from Gaza. This marks the deadliest period for Palestinian detainees since 1967. The total number of confirmed Palestinian detainees who were killed in Israeli detention since 1967 now stands at 296. Rights groups say many more remain forcibly disappeared.
The statement condemned Haniyah’s death as “another crime in Israel’s escalating campaign against detainees.” It described Israel’s treatment of prisoners as a continuation of the war on Gaza, aimed at executing detainees through systematic torture, starvation, and medical neglect.
The groups warned that more detainees could die as Israel continues to detain thousands under inhumane conditions. Reports document severe abuse, including physical and sexual assaults, medical neglect, and deprivation of basic necessities.
The Prisoners’ Affairs Commission and the Prisoners’ Club held Israel fully responsible for Haniyah’s death. They called on international human rights organizations to take real action against Israeli war crimes and impose sanctions. They also urged the global legal system to hold Israeli leaders accountable and end the exceptional impunity Israel enjoys on the world stage.
