Palestinian detainee in Israeli prisons ends hunger strike after 27 days
Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Palestinian detainee in Israeli prisons Samer Issawi suspended on Friday his hunger strike which lasted for 27 days in protest against Israel’s withholding bodies of Palestinian martyrs and being placed in solitary confinement.
According to the Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ Affairs, Issawi ended his hunger strike which lasted for 27 consecutive days after reaching an agreement with the Israeli prison administration to end his solitary confinement and moving him from the Ramon prison to Al-Naqab prison.
Issawi started his hunger strike in solidarity with the families of Palestinian martyrs whose bodies are still withheld by the Israeli occupation. He was punitively transferred to the Ramon Prison and put in solitary confinement as a punitive measure.
Issawi, a resident of the Al-Issawiya neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem, was first arrested in 2003 and sentenced to 30 years. He was released as part of a prisoner swap deal in 2011 but was re-arrested in 2012.
Following his arrest, Issawi started a hunger strike for 9 months before being released in December 2013. However, he was arrested once again in June 2014.
