Palestinian activist sentenced by ‘Israel’ to 4 years turns herself in
Al-Naqab (QNN)- Palestinian activist Aya Khtaib turned herself in to Israeli occupation on Monday after an Israeli court sentenced her to four years over her humanitarian work.
Aya Khatib is a mother of two and a well known activist from Ar’arat an-Naqab in the 1948-occupied Palestine.
In August, an Israeli court sentenced her to four years in prison. The Israeli court accused her of “providing information with the aim of harming state security” and that the money she raised had gone towards helping families who belonged to Hamas.
That time, Khatib called the sentence “unjust” and said the sentence is an attempt to intimidate humanitarian activists. She noted that her work was aimed at helping Palestinian children suffering from medical issues.
“The Israeli courts will not be able to defeat or break us. They will not be able to change an ounce of our principles,” Khtaib told local media.
Khtaib was arrested three years before her sentencing and was originally arrested in February 2020 when she was interrogated by Israeli intelligence officers before an indictment was submitted against her.
There are currently 37 Palestinian female prisoners held in Israeli occupation prisons, four of them under administrative detention, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society.
