Palestine applauds South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at ICJ

Ramallah (Quds News Network) – Palestine has expressed its support for South Africa’s legal action against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing it of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip.

In a press statement, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said, “The Palestinian people consider South Africa’s ICJ case against Israel for committing genocidal crimes in Gaza as a historic move.”

The ministry criticized the international community’s inaction, arguing that that international silence “encourages Israel to commit crimes, leading to the commission and incitement to commit the crime of genocide…along with the complicity of some countries by using the veto and providing political and military support.”

Calling on all nations to support South Africa’s case against Israel, the ministry emphasized the urgency of addressing genocidal acts committed by Israel in Gaza.

South Africa initiated legal proceedings against Israel on December 29, filing an application with the ICJ. The African country had previously suspended relations with Israel on November 21 in response to the military offensive in the Gaza Strip, which so far resulted in nearly 24,000 Palestinians killed, with 70% of the victims being women and children.

The United Nations says that approximately 85% of Gazans have been displaced, and the entire population is facing food insecurity. The humanitarian situation is dire, with hundreds of thousands of people living without shelter, and less than half of the aid trucks entering the territory compared to before the conflict began.
