Pakistan Nominates Trump for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize
Islamabad (Quds News Network)- Pakistan has officially nominated US President Donald J. Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his role in easing tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi earlier this year.
In a statement released Friday, the office of Pakistan’s Prime Minister praised Trump’s intervention during the May 2025 military standoff with India. The statement said Trump’s diplomacy helped prevent a “wider conflict between two nuclear-armed states” that could have endangered millions of lives.
Pakistan credited Trump with facilitating a ceasefire agreement on May 10, just days after deadly clashes erupted along the contested border. According to the statement, his efforts showed he “supports peaceful solutions and dialogue,” calling him a “true ambassador for peace.”
India, however, denied any US role in the ceasefire. Indian officials rejected claims of foreign mediation, insisting that the decision to end hostilities was made independently.
Despite the denial, Islamabad moved ahead with formally recommending Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. The Pakistani government also lauded Trump’s previous offers to help mediate the Kashmir dispute, calling for the implementation of UN resolutions to achieve lasting peace in South Asia.
Trump himself celebrated the developments in a post on his Truth Social platform. He claimed credit for helping secure a separate peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, calling it “a great day for Africa, and honestly, a great day for the world.”
Still, the tone turned defensive as Trump criticized the Norwegian Nobel Committee, saying it continues to ignore his role in resolving international conflicts.
He demanded recognition for what he called his peacekeeping efforts.
Trump has framed his 2024 election campaign around the image of a “deal-maker president” and global peacemaker. He pledged to end the wars in Ukraine and Gaza quickly, but both conflicts remain unresolved five months into his second term. Meanwhile, he continues to support Israel and send weapons that prolong the genocide in Gaza.
Moreover, Trump facilitated and greenlit an Israeli attack on Iran, sparking a conflict that risks igniting a third world war.
Trump has long criticized his predecessor Barack Obama, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, calling the award “undeserved.” He now says his track record proves he is more worthy of the honor.
In January alone, Israeli forces and settlers carried out 28 raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque and prevented the call to prayer 57 times at the Ibrahimi Mosque, an official report said.
Israel is holding the bodies of around 777 identified Palestinians, including 88 detainees who died in Israeli prisons amid reports of torture and medical negligence, according to a Palestinian organization advocating for their release.
Only five of the 450 Palestinian patients in critical condition will be allowed to leave the Gaza Strip on Monday, after Israel reopened the Rafah Crossing between Gaza and Egypt for limited traffic following two years of genocide and nearly 20 months of closure.
