PA police arrests Nasa researcher among others in Ramallah

Ramallah (QNN)- The Palestinian Authority’s police on Sunday arrested the astrophysicist Imad Barghouthi, who worked for Nasa, as well as other activists before releasing them today.

At least 19 citizens, including Barghouthi, got arrested in Ramallah on Monday after calls to protest against the PA’s detention of 16 citizens, who protested calling for justice for Nizar Banat, who in turn, was killed by the PA’s police last June.

In addition to Barghouthi, the police arrested the poet Zakariyya Muhammad, the activist Khaldoun Bishara, IJ leader Ahmad Naser, Muhammad Attar, former prisoners Maher Al Akhras and Salem Qatash, and others.

The police tried to arrest more protesters but female activists prevented them.

After he was released today, Barghouthi said that the PA hold those it arrests in very inhumane conditions. He added that he was accused of insulting the PA’s President, Mahmoud Abbas, and attacking the policemen although he has not even attended the protest because it was banned before it got started.

Former prisoner, Maher Al Akhras, after being released today, said PA policemen said “that we were spies and that they will get rid of us all!”

A group of PA policemen had assassinated the activist Nizar Banat in his house last June. Despite the local and international calls to bring those responsible accountable, the PA continues to delay announcing the results of the investigations into the crime. It also continues to detain those who protest demanding justice to Banat.
