Over 4,000 Palestinians, Mostly Children, Lose Limbs in Gaza Since Israeli Assault, Says Health Official
Gaza (Quds News Network)- More than 4,000 Palestinians have had their upper or lower limbs amputated in Gaza since Israel began its assault with the majority being children, Mohammad Abu Salmiya, director of al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza, said.
In addition, Salmiya said that 2,000 people with spinal and brain injuries have become bedridden as a result of injuries sustained by Israeli attacks.
He added the Israeli occupation has completely destroyed the healthcare system in Gaza, including hospitals that provide care for people with disabilities, and is preventing disabled people from traveling abroad for treatment.
Salmiya also noted that approximately 14,000 patients are waiting on the referral list for treatment abroad, pointing out that since the closure of the Rafah crossing, the Israeli occupation has only allowed 300 patients to travel for treatment.
He further demanded the entry of medical supplies for people with disabilities, emphasizing that they are now lacking even the most basic items, such as wheelchairs and crutches.
