Over 400 PIJ prisoners in Israeli jails to start hunger strike against Israeli repression
Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Over 400 Palestinian Islamic Jihad prisoners in Israeli jails are going to start an open-ended hunger strike on Wednesday in protest against the punitive and repressive measures taken by the Israeli prisons’ administration, the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said on Tuesday.
As a part of a campaign against Israel’s recent repression and attacks against Palestinian prisoners, over 400 Palestinian Islamic Jihad prisoners will start an open hunger strike tomorrow.
Lately, the Palestinian prisoners’ movement announced that 1,380 Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails from across the political spectrum will start an open-ended hunger strike as a part of the campaign against Israeli repression.
The prisoners’ movement said it decided to dissolve all the regulatory bodies of all factions in all prisons.
It said that the first batch of the hunger strike will include 1,380 detainees from several prisons; 400 detainees from Ramon prison, 300 from Ofer prison, 200 from Nafha prison, 200 from Megiddo prison, 100 from Gilboa prison, and 80 detainees from Eshel Prison, 50 from Shatta Prison, and 50 detainees from Hadarim Prison.
The prisoners have demanded the Israeli prisons’ administration to end its policy of repression, abuse, and arbitrary transfers and release isolated prisoners to regular sections, return detention conditions to what they were before September 6, and to end the policy of arbitrary administrative detention and stop the renewal policy for administrative detainees, among other demands.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad warned Israel Prison Service against suppressing the protest, saying it held ‘Israel’ for responsible for any harm to the prisoners.
Such tensions came after the heroic act of six Palestinian prisoners who managed to free themselves on September 6 2021, from Gilbou prison, a high-security Israeli prison, through a secret tunnel they had reportedly dug beneath the prison.
Four of the six breakers were rearrested by the Israeli occupation on September 11, after five days of large-scale sweep operations throughout occupied Palestine using high-tech systems and the two others were rearrested on September 19, after 13 days of sweep operations.
