Outrage following DSA statement on Rep. Jamaal Bowman

Washington (QNN)- The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has been under fire due to its recent statement, in which it rejected calls to expel Rep. Jamaal Bowman over his support to the occupation state of ‘Israel’.

The DSA on Thursday issued a statement following calls to expel Rep. Jamaal Bowman after he voted for funding Israel’s Iron Dome, met the Israeli Prime Minister Neftali Bennett and took part in a trip, organized by the zionist J Street, to occupied Palestine.

Over 460 major organizations and universities had signed a petition calling the DSA to expel Bowman. The signatories called on Bowman to “uphold Palestinian civil society’s call for BDS until apartheid Israel ends its illegal settlement expansion, dismantles its apartheid system, and grants Palestinians their right to return, Provide protection to and support for Palestinians through legislation and oppose anti-Palestinian legislation, like anti-free speech laws against BDS, and participate in the travel boycott for personal travel to Israel and Palestine.”

The DSA said it “is committed to the Palestinian fight for freedom” and that it “agrees with members who have signified the strategic importance of developing greater accountability for DSA elected”, however, it decided not to expel Bowman, citing its “developing electoral program and strategy for achieving material justice for Palestine”.

“We recognize the threat that Bowman and other members of the squad pose to the Zionist lobby and the important role DSA can play with them in advancing Palestinian rights and anti-imperialist struggle at the federal level”, the statement reads.

The DSA’s statement sparked outrage among activists on Social media, who described the organization as racist and questioned the real intentions of its members.
