On Mother’s Day… ‘Israel’ holds 12 Palestinian mothers in its jails

Ramallah (QNN)- The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club and Addameer said that the occupation state is holding 12 Palestinian mothers of 33 children.

The 12 mothers are part of 37 female prisoners in the Damon and HaSharon jails.

In a joint report marking Mother’s Day, the watchdogs said the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) has been using the COVID 19 pandemic to prevent children from visiting or embracing their detained mothers.

Some detained mothers are serving lengthy periods of jail time, such as the wounded mother Israa Jaabis (serving a sentence of 11 years in jail), and Fadwa Hamada and Amani Husheim (serving ten years in jail).

Hilweh Hamamreh and Nisreen Hasan were sentenced to six years, Inas Asafreh was sentenced to two years and a half, Khalida Jarrar was sentenced to two years, Iman Awar was sentenced to 22 months, and Aya Al Khatib has been jailed for two years so far without court sessions.

The report stated that on March 8, 2021, the occupation state detained Anhar Al Hajjeh from Ramallah, although she was three months pregnant at the time. She has been detained in HaSharon jail in inhumane conditions.

The report noted that female prisoners are being subjected to different forms of physical and psychological torture.

Since 2015, the occupation state arrested over 900 women, including mothers of prisoners and martyrs. Most arrests took part in occupied Jerusalem.

The report stated that Nisreen Hasan from Gaza was arrested in 2015 but her 7 children ever since have not been able to even see her for “security causes”.
