‘Not Another Bomb’: Uncommitted Movement Blames Harris’s Loss on Democratic Support for Genocide

Washington, DC – In a sharply worded statement following recent election results, Layla Elabed and Abbas Alawieh, co-founders of the Uncommitted National Movement, criticized the Democratic Party for what they described as a fundamental disconnect from key communities and core values.

Their statement addressed the growing frustration among Arab, Muslim, and anti-war voters, many of whom have felt alienated by Democratic policies, particularly in regard to US support for Israeli war crimes and genocide in Palestine and Lebanon.

“The outcome of this election is not a reflection of Donald Trump’s appeal; it is a sobering reminder that the Democratic Party has lost touch with the very communities that once fueled its progress,” said Elabed and Alawieh.

They attributed the election loss not solely to policies or candidates, but to a “deeper disconnection from our values and our people,” pointing to the Biden administration’s unlimited support for Israel as a primary source of disillusionment.

For Arab and Muslim Americans, the co-founders explained, the election felt “profoundly personal.” The statement highlighted how, amid Israeli brutal assaults against Gaza and Lebanon, these communities have faced “anguish as American-supplied Israeli bombs have fallen on loved ones.”

Many feel that their calls for empathy and intervention from Democratic leaders have been largely ignored, leaving a void in which former President Donald Trump has positioned himself as a “pro-peace” alternative—an appeal, they argue, born out of the Democratic Party’s failure to engage with them.

The co-founders expressed disappointment with the Biden-Harris administration’s unyielding support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, despite policies that perpetuate suffering and despair.

They emphasized that Biden’s legacy, in the eyes of many Arab and Muslim Americans, has been overshadowed by war and grief rather than hope.

The Uncommitted Movement’s statement was particularly critical of the Democratic Party’s recent calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, likening them to “thoughts and prayers” offered in the aftermath of a mass shooting. They stated that the Biden administration stands by as Israel’s government continues to displace millions in “Netanyahu’s genocide…backed by President Biden and Vice President Harris.”

The Biden administration is complicit in a “post-ethnic-cleansing reality that cannot simply be undone by ceasefires or incremental steps”, the statement added.

In their closing appeal, Elabed and Alawieh urged the Democratic Party to act decisively, calling for an immediate halt to the “flow of weapons that fuel this cycle of violence.” They warned that if the Biden administration fails to take such steps, it risks forever entangling the Democratic Party’s legacy with “endless war and suffering,” alienating key voters and communities in the process.

“Now is the time to listen, to reflect, and to forge a path that truly embodies the values we profess to represent,” the statement concluded. With their message, Elabed and Alawieh made clear that the current moment requires urgent and bold action—not just resilience.
