Norwegian Far-right MP nominates Trump for Nobel peace prize

The MP's daughter criticized the nomination saying "The prize is given to those who have 'done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.' Donald Trump does not come to mind when I read this description."

Copenhagen (QNN)- A far-right Norwegian MP said Wednesday that he has nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for brokering the UAE’s normalization deal with the occupation state.

Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a member of the Norwegian Parliament for the far-right Progress Party, said Trump should be considered because of his work “for a peace agreement between the United Arab Emirates and Israel which opens up for possible peace in the Middle East.”

“No matter how Trump acts at home and what he says at press conferences, he has absolutely a chance at getting the Nobel Peace Prize,” Tybring-Gjedde, told The Associated Press.

He claimed that “Donald Trump meets the criteria” for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump responded to news of his nomination for the 2021 prize by expressing his thanks on Twitter.

Tybring-Gjedde had previously nominated Trump for the peace prize in 2018 for his efforts to bring reconciliation between North and South Korea.

In an email to CBS News, Tybring-Gjedde’s daughter Mathilde, a member of Parliament for the center-right Conservative Party, criticized the nomination stressing that Trump does not meet the criteria for the prize.

“I did not nominate Donald Trump as I do not believe he is qualified to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The prize is given to those who have ‘done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.’ Donald Trump does not come to mind when I read this description,” said Mathilde Tybring-Gjedde.

Nominations are usually accepted from any politician serving at a national level, or from heads of state, making the criteria for nomination very easy to meet.

Tybring-Gjedde said in his nomination letter: “As it is expected other Middle Eastern countries will follow in the footsteps of the UAE, this agreement could be a gamechanger that will turn the Middle East into a region of cooperation and prosperity.”

Being known for legitimizing the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights, giving the green line for Israeli settlement, and supporting Arab dictators, especially in Gulf countries, against their people, Trump is one of the most notorious American Presidents in the Middle East.
