Newton of Gaza: Hussam Al-Attar shines a light in the face of darkness

Gaza (Quds News Network) – As the Israeli war of genocide on Gaza rages on, now in its 118th day, the suffering of the Palestinian people in the territory has only deepened.

Forced to flee south and seek refuge in makeshift tents after Israeli occupation forces destroyed their homes, the displaced Gazans find themselves lacking the most basic necessities of life—food, water, and electricity.

Yet, it is said that from adversity arises greatness, and from hardship emerges hope and creativity. Such is the case with young Hussam Al-Attar, a Gazan child displaced from his home. Dubbed “Newton of Gaza,” Hussam has managed, through ingenuity and determination, to generate electricity for his family’s tent in Rafah, southern Gaza, using a simple invention consisting of two fans.

The young inventor explained told reporters that the driving force behind his creation was the desire to provide sufficient light for his brother to see clearly during the night hours.

Videos circulating on social media showcase Hussam, a Gazan child described by activists as “a genius,” constructing an improvised electric generator using basic and readily available tools. The young innovator’s invention has illuminated the darkness of his camp with minimal resources.

Others have hailed him as part of a resilient people who refuse to surrender, despite enduring the relentless assault since the beginning of the war on October 7, 2023. Gaza’s inhabitants stand firm against an occupier that has turned the enclave into a focal point of suffering.

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli military has waged a destructive war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in over 27,000 casualties, the majority being children and women, according to Palestinian authorities.

The Israeli aggression has inflicted extensive damage, leaving behind an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, as noted by the United Nations.
