New York Governor apologizes for controversial remarks justifying the genocide in Gaza
New York (Quds News Network) – New York Governor Kathy Hochul has issued an apology for statements she made during a Jewish charity event in New York, which sparked controversy on social media. Her comments were interpreted as suggesting that “Israel has a justification to destroy Gaza”.
During her speech at an event organized by the United Jewish Appeal Federation in New York on Thursday, Hochul stated, “If Canada were to attack Buffalo one day, I’m sorry, my friends, there won’t be a Canada the next day. That’s a natural response. You have the right to defend yourself and ensure it doesn’t happen again. That’s Israel’s right.”
In a statement on Friday, reported by The New York Times, she expressed regret for the “inappropriate analogy” and apologized for her “poor choice of words.”
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has left over two million residents on the brink of famine. Nearly 29,000 people have been killed in the Israeli attack, with around 70,000 sustaining injuries, mostly civilians, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.
The United Nations has called for a humanitarian ceasefire, a stance opposed by the United States. The impact of the war on American society has also been noted, with human rights advocates observing a rise in anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and bias against Arabs in the United States since the beginning of the Israeli war.
