New Testimonies Expose Brutal Treatment of Gaza Detainees in Israeli Detention Camps

New testimonies have been revealed detailing the systematic abuse faced by detainees from Gaza in Israeli prisons and detention camps.

Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- The Palestinian Prisoners Society and the Palestinian Prisoners Club revealed new testimonies detailing the systematic abuse faced by detainees from Gaza in Israeli prisons and detention camps.

Recent legal visits to 11 detainees held in the “Sde Teiman,” “Naftali,” “Anatot,” and Negev prisons shed light on horrific torture methods used by Israeli forces.

At the Anatot camp, detainee (Y.F.) recounted enduring the “disco” torture technique. This method involves playing loud music continuously for two days, leading to physical and psychological trauma. The detainee also reported being blindfolded, with no knowledge of the charges against him after a mock trial lasting only five minutes.

In Sde Teiman, detainee (M.Y.) described four days of severe beating, resulting in a serious nosebleed. Afterward, he was transferred to Anatot, where he was isolated from other prisoners.

Detainee (M.Y.) also recalled being blindfolded and handcuffed at all times, making it impossible to know his location until informed by his lawyer. The conditions at Anatot were described as harsh, with detainees forced to sit for hours in two positions—either on their knees or on their backs. Prisoners are denied basic necessities like access to sanitation, with those needing to relieve themselves facing punishment. Food portions are minimal, and detainees are only allowed one shower a week. Clothes are replaced once a month, and they are prohibited from praying, with punishments for those who attempt to do so.

At Sde Teiman, detainee (M.M.) reported brutal beatings during his arrest, which resulted in broken ribs. He still suffers chest pains three months later. Detainees sleep on thin mattresses, with limited access to hygiene supplies like soap and shaving equipment. Prisoners receive minimal food, and showers are allowed only twice a week.

In the Negev prison, testimonies highlighted the ongoing issue of food deprivation, humiliation, and the spread of scabies. Detainees reported being consistently hungry, with food delivery times manipulated by prison authorities. They also raised concerns about the lack of proper grooming tools, with some prisoners unable to cut their nails or shave for months.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society and the Prisoners Club also noted the lack of accurate data regarding the number of detainees from Gaza, with estimates placing the figure in the thousands. They also revealed that Israel has created specialized detention camps for Gaza prisoners, such as Sde Teiman, Anatot, and Naftali, in addition to existing central prisons like Ofer and Negev.

The testimonies from Gaza detainees mark a turning point in revealing the severity of Israeli practices in detention. These accounts expose widespread and systematic torture, medical negligence, sexual assaults, and the use of detainees as human shields.

Sde Teiman, in particular, has become infamous for its brutal treatment, with reports of rape and sexual assault. Despite these revelations, many detainees’ deaths remain hidden, with official records acknowledging only 37 Gaza detainees killed, though the real number is believed to be much higher. The Israeli authorities continue to conceal the identities of detainees who have died in custody, further deepening the humanitarian crisis faced by Gaza’s prisoners.
