Netanyahu suggested blocking social media during aggression on Gaza
Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggested to block social media after Palestinians living in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories held protests against Israel’s attacks on occupied East Jerusalem and besieged Gaza Strip.
According to Israeli news, Netanyahu suggested blocking social media during the aggression on Gaza which started on May 10 and ended with a ceasefire brokered by mediator Egypt on May 21, killing at least 279 Palestinians, including 69 children and 40 women and injuring 1,910 others.
The officials said Netanyahu recommended blocking social media twice, but his suggestions were refused by Israel’s Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit and the Shin Bet security service and other officials.
According to the reports, Netanyahu probably made the recommendation to prevent a probable riot, claiming that the Palestinians living in the occupied territories organized the protests through the social media platform Tiktok.
Israel’s Walla news, however, said it was not Netanyahu who recommended blocking social media, but rather, he supported a plan offered by security officials.
