Netanyahu Responds to Macron: Israel Was Created by Europeans Through War, Not a UN Resolution
Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent remarks about Israel’s creation on the ruins of historic Palestine, asserting that the occupation state was founded by Europeans through war, not by a United Nations resolution.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Netanyahu said, “A reminder to the president of France: It was not the UN resolution that established the State of Israel, but rather the victory achieved in the War of Independence with the blood of heroic fighters, many of whom were Holocaust survivors — including from the Vichy regime in France.”
This comment followed Macron’s warning to Netanyahu not to “ignore United Nations decisions.” Macron had referenced the UN General Assembly’s 1947 resolution, which called for the partition of historic Palestine, which was under British mandate, into two separate states, one for natie Palestinians and the other for Jewish immigrants, leading to Israel’s creation. Macron’s message was delivered during a ministerial meeting amid rising tensions between Israel and Lebanon.
The French president also called for a halt to arms shipments to Israel in a recent interview, prompting Netanyahu to accuse Macron of showing “shame.”
Macron’s remarks also reflect growing international concern over Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon, especially those targeting UN peacekeepers. France, along with 40 other nations, condemned these actions after two UN staff members were injured in recent Israeli strikes.
French Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecornu added to the warnings, saying Israel’s refusal to respect UN resolutions was “a problem.” Lecornu reiterated that Israel’s creation was supported by one of the earliest UN resolutions, further highlighting the tension between the Israeli government and international bodies.
