Mexico and Chile join calls for ICC investigation into Israeli war crimes in Gaza

Jerusalem (Quds News Network) – In a significant diplomatic move, Mexico and Chile have added their voices to the growing chorus calling for an International Criminal Court (ICC) investigation into Israeli war crimes during the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip since October 7th of last year.
The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed in a press statement its deep concern about the recent surge in Israeli war crimes in Gaza, particularly against civilian targets. Citing Articles 13(a) and 14 of the ICC’s Statute, Mexico invoked the court’s jurisdiction to investigate potential crimes committed during the specified period.
Emphasizing its commitment to the ICC as a crucial platform for determining international criminal responsibility, Mexico aims to address the grave implications of the situation on an international scale.
The Mexican government is closely monitoring the case brought by South Africa before the International Court of Justice, where charges of “genocide” against Israel have been presented. The lawsuit accuses Israel of perpetrating a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, resulting in tens of thousands of casualties over the 105-day aggression.
The ICC had previously announced receiving requests from five countries, including South Africa, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Comoros, and Djibouti, urging an investigation into alleged war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza and the West Bank.
ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan confirmed the receipt of these requests on November 17th last year, marking a pivotal moment in the pursuit of justice for the victims of the ongoing Israeli war of genocide.
