Meta to remove posts criticizing Zionism

Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- Meta said on Tuesday it would start removing more posts criticizing “Zionists” when the term is used to refer to Israelis.

The company added in a post that it will remove content “attacking ‘Zionists’ when it is not explicitly about the political movement” calling such content antisemitic.

It claimed that it took this decision following what it described as a months-long inquiry into how the term has historically been used and how it is currently being used on social media. It claimed that it met with more than 145 historians, civil rights groups, legal and human rights experts, and free speech advocates from around the world in reaching its decision.

The Facebook and Instagram parent claimed that the term ‘Zionist’ is being used as a proxy for the words ‘Jew’ or ‘Israeli,’ particularly in a negative connotation.

Meta has been always criticized for its heavy support for the occupation state of Israel and repression of the Palestinian people.

Last April, +972 Magazine and Local Call revealed that Meta’s WhatsApp has been providing information to an AI program developed and used by the Israeli military to kill Palestinians in Gaza.

Several international watchdogs, including Human Rights Watch and Access Now, warned that Meta has been actively censoring and repressing Palestinian and pro-Palestine voices.
