Mediterranean shoreline of Khedera shut following oil spill
Occupied Haifa (QNN)- The occupation state has closed all Mediterranean beaches until further notice on Sunday following an offshore oil spill deposited tons of tar across more than 100 miles (160 kilometers) of coastline.
Environmental groups called it a disaster. Attesting to the cost to wildlife, they posted pictures of tar-covered turtles.
The event began last week during a winter storm, which made it harder to see the tar approaching and deal with it at sea, Israeli officials said.
Late last week a 55ft-long fin whale was found washed up on a beach in southern occupied Palestine. The Israeli nature and parks authority said on Sunday that an autopsy had found oil-based material in the whale’s body, and further tests were pending.
A recent report by Aljazeera revealed that a UAE-Israeli oil pipeline deal puts unique Red Sea coral reefs in danger and could lead to “the next ecological disaster”.
The report stated that an agreement to bring Emirati crude oil by tanker to a pipeline in the Red Sea port of ‘Eilat’ was inked after the normalization deal between the UAE and the occupation state last year.
