Many Palestinian detainees in Israel’s Damon prison in need of hospital treatment, says watchdog

Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- Many female Palestinian detainees held in Israel’s Damon prison are in need of hospital treatment, the Palestinian Commission of Detainees Affairs said on Tuesday.

The commission said at least one of the 78 women held in Israel’s Damon prison suffers from cancer, another deals with difficult health conditions and two others are held in solitary confinement cells.

Three detainees from Gaza are held in the Israeli prison, the commission said. The three are Siham Abu Salem, her daughter Susan Abu Salem and Asmaa Shatat.

“Rooms are very narrow in comparison with the number of detainees,” the commission said, adding that they are “unventilated” besides the high temperature, time of showering is limited to one hour for two rooms, and detainees receive insufficient amounts of food, clothes and feminine needs.

One third of the total number of detainees are held under administrative detention, which is a controversial practice used by Israel to detain someone who has not committed a crime, under the pretext that they were planning to break the law in the future.

Among the detainees are Zainab Sajadia who suffers from cancer, Rana Eidah who suffers from serious health and psychological conditions, and both detainees Nawal Fathiya and Dana Khouri are isolated in solitary confinement.
