Mandla Mandela calls for boycott of Miss Universe in ‘Israel’

Cape Town (QNN)- Mandla Mandela, the grandson of the former president of South Africa and anti-apartheid revolutionary, statesman and philanthropist, called for the boycott of the Miss Universe competition, which will be organized in the occupation state of Israeli in December.

In a statement issued last week, Mandela called on the 63rd Miss South Africa, Lalela Mswane, as well as all former Miss South Africa winners, to boycott that event in protest at the “occupation and the cruel treatment of Palestinians at the hands of apartheid Israel regime”.

“There is nothing beautiful about occupation, brutality and institutionalised discrimination against the Palestinian people,” said Mandela.

He added that the brutal punishment and harassment meted out to Palestinians on a daily basis was horrific, detestable and a crime against humanity.

Mandela further said the harassment of Palestinians should be prosecuted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and that Israel’s occupation was no less despicable than apartheid in South Africa.

The Miss Universe competition will be held in ‘Eilat’, a city built on the ruins of Umm Al Rashrash, which was occupied and emptied of its native Palestinian population in 1949. The city is part of the Sinai Peninsula, which links Africa with Asia. The African part of the peninsula is ruled by Egypt now, while the Asian Palestinian part, is occupied by the occupation state.
