Macron Urges Israel to ‘Put an End to Strikes on Gaza, Return to Ceasefire’

Paris (Quds News Network)- French President Emmanuel Macron urged on Sunday Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “put an end to the strikes on Gaza and return to the ceasefire.”

Macron’s intervention came during a phone call with Netanyahu, as Israel resumed its bombardment of the besieged Palestinian territory, breaking the fragile truce with Hamas that had been signed on January 19.

“I called on the Israeli prime minister to put an end to the strikes on Gaza and return to the ceasefire, which Hamas must accept. I underlined that humanitarian aid must be delivered again immediately,” the French leader wrote on X.

“We will continue working on the Arab reconstruction plan and the essential return to a political horizon based on the two-state solution, which is the only path to peace and security for both peoples. Any forced displacement or annexation would go against this goal,” he added.

Earlier this month, the governments of Germany, France, and Britain condemned Israel’s decision to resume its genocide war in Gaza and called on Israel to return to a ceasefire.

“We call on Israel to restore humanitarian access, including water and electricity, and ensure access to medical care and temporary medical evacuations in accordance with international humanitarian law”, the foreign ministers of the three countries, known as the E3, said in a statement.

The ministers said they were “appalled by the civilian casualties.”

Since Israel resumed its attacks on Gaza, more than 900 Palestinian civilians have been killed in the territory, adding to the more than 50,000 killed since October 7, 2023, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
