Legal experts: Israel meets all criteria for genocide
Gaza (Quds News Network)- Legal experts are raising alarms over Israel’s actions in Gaza, with many asserting that the occupation state has fulfilled all the criteria for committing genocide.
Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, has condemned Israel’s actions, describing Gaza as “the largest and most shameful concentration camp of the 21st century.” Albanese accused Israel of systematically genociding Palestinians, targeting one neighborhood, hospital, school, refugee camp, and ‘safe zone’ at a time. She highlighted the role of US and European weapons in these operations and criticized the indifference of “civilized nations” to the ongoing atrocities. In a powerful statement, Albanese expressed deep regret for the international community’s failure to protect Palestinians, lamenting the disregard for the fundamental principles of international law.
Legal expert Abdel Majeed Marrari, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Paris-based AFD International, echoed these concerns. Speaking to Al Jazeera, Marrari pointed out that the Israeli military has openly admitted in its latest statement that it targeted Al-Tabi’een school, fully aware that civilians were inside and stating that no second explosions took place following the strikes, hinting that there were no weapons in the school. This admission, he emphasized, is undeniable evidence of Israel’s intent to harm civilians.
Marrari also addressed the challenges faced in holding Israeli officials accountable at the International Criminal Court (ICC). He noted that the US has exerted significant pressure to prevent the issuance of arrest warrants against Israeli officials. However, he acknowledged that the recent decision by Britain to retract its plan to challenge the ICC’s authority to issue an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has somewhat alleviated the obstacles faced by those seeking justice.
