Karim Khan faces criticism for showing bias against Palestinians

Ramallah (QNN)- Human rights organizations cast doubt on the Prosecutor of the ICC, Karim Khan’s integrity.

Human rights organizations in Palestine have cast doubt on the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan’s integrity. They rejected a meeting with him on Saturday. Moreover, They accused him of dealing unfairly with mutual accusations of human rights violations between the Israeli occupation and the Palestinians.

Representatives of three human rights organizations expressed their concerns during a press conference in Ramallah City in the central West Bank. The three institutions are the Al-Haq Foundation, the Independent Commission for Human Rights and the Jerusalem Center for Legal Aid. The organizations decided not to engage in Khan’s visit to Palestine due to doubts about his integrity. They held him responsible for the deterioration and politicization of the court’s role.

Ammar Dweik, the Director-General of the Independent Commission for Human Rights, stated, “As Palestinian human rights organizations, we have decided not to meet with him.”  He added, “I believe that the way this visit is handled shows that Mr. Khan is not carrying out his work independently and professionally.”

Karim Khan is now in Tel Aviv after receiving an invitation from the families of Israeli prisoners in Gaza. He will meet with some of the Israeli prisoners’ families and their lawyers as expected. Earlier yesterday, Khan met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.

Shawan Jabarin, Director-General of Al-Haq Foundation, criticized the Prosecutor. He stated that Karim Khan came by invitation from the families of Israeli prisoners and their legal representatives. Meanwhile, Palestinian victims’ representatives, including international and local lawyers, had previously requested a meeting with him, but it was in vain.

Ismail al-Arouri, the Director of the Jerusalem Center for Legal Aid, criticized Karim Khan. He stated that Khan was supposed to reach the Palestinian victims in their locations. However, they were invited to meet with him, unlike his approach in Israel. This shows a form of bias.”
