Jordanian Intelligence Orders Deportation of Ahlam Tamimi Tonight

Amman (Quds News Network)- Jordanian intelligence has informed Hamas that freed Palestinian-Jordanian prisoner Ahlam Tamimi must leave Jordan tonight, reported the New Arab.
Ahlam Tamimi, who was the first female member of Al-Qassam Brigades and was deported to Jordan in a 2011 prisoner swap, faces US extradition demands over her alleged role in a 2001 resistance operation in occupied Jerusalem, which resulted in the death of two American settlers.
Jordan’s Court of Cassation previously ruled against handing her over to the US, citing legal barriers.
member of the Freedoms Committee at the Jordanian Bar Association, Baha’a Al-Atala, warned that if the report is true, it would violate Jordan’s constitution, which prohibits the deportation of its citizens. A 2017 ruling confirmed this protection.
The US National Security Council renewed its demand for her extradition last year, claiming she must “face justice.” In 2013, the FBI placed her on its most-wanted list for alleged involvement in a resistance operation that killed 15 people, including two American colonizers in occupied Jerusalem.
Tamimi, born in Jordan in 1980, was arrested by Israel in 2001 and sentenced to 16 life terms. She endured harsh conditions in Israeli prisons before being freed in a Hamas-Israel prisoner exchange.
If sent to the US, she faces life imprisonment. Her name was removed from Interpol’s wanted list last year.
