John Legend speaks up for Palestinian rights

New York (QNN) – Famous American singer and producer John Legend recently spoke out about Palestinians’ rights during an interview with American comedian and political commentator Bill Maher on HBO.
During the show, which discussed the #MeTooMovement and the allegedly anti-Semitic comments made by Ilhan Omar, the Muslim Somali-American and member of the U.S. Congress, Legend, defending Omar, said that Palestinians’ rights should be spoken about.
“As progressives we should always speak up for human rights of Palestinians, and for too long,” Legend said. “I think it has been out of balance for progressives to talk about rights of Palestinians.”
This is not the first time Legend stands for Palestine. During 2014 the Gaza-Israel war, he criticized the then-US Secretary of State John Kerry for attempting to broker a ceasefire deal between Palestine and Israel. In that same year, he gave a speech for graduates at the University of Pennsylvania, in which he advocated the rights of the Palestinian people under occupation.
“It means we see a young Palestinian kid not as a future security threat or demographic challenge, but as a future father, mother and lover,” Legend said during the speech. “It means that the nearly 300 kidnapped girls in Nigeria aren’t just their problem. They’re ‘our’ girls too. It’s actually quite a challenge to love humankind in this way.”
